I've meant to give a shout out to Shannon for a while, but I was waiting to take a picture of the lovely necklace she gave me as a gift for my birthday a couple of weeks ago. I can't seem to take a good picture of it, but it is very pretty and nice of her to make for me and oh so fun to get in the mail. Instead, I'll direct you to much better pictures of the jewelry she makes herself (and are available for purchase) here. Check it out.
Also, she has a cool website called Naptime Books, which is a book club that she runs. I really want to try it out sometime, but I haven't been organized enough yet to commit to reading a whole book lately! But I've lurked a couple times and the discussions seem interesting. So, those of you who read more than just blogs, check that out, too. Of course, her main weblog, Peter's Cross Station is a wonderful read and I always learn something new. I also keep forgetting to tell her that D thinks she is beautiful (as do I) and I think if she weren't already married, he'd have designs to run off and marry her. (I'm fine with that as long as they take the kids on weekends. : )
Next, I'd like to point you to the indomitable Twisty Faster. I can't say enough how much she rocks and then rocks some more. I bring her up today because she did something today that was probably just about the coolest thing I've ever seen from a woman in a long time. She has breast cancer and just this week had a second mastectomy. Check out her post for today.
Go ahead, it is very brief. I'll wait.
Are you back? Okay, I love that on so many levels. It is a big F U to the patriarchal ideals of beauty, to the whole notion that if you're body has been disabled in some way then that some way should be hidden and never mentioned again, and that she actually drug herself out of the hospital bed to take that is just so...Bad Ass. And I also like the picture because she is beautiful and she knows it and it shows.
If I were a lesbian, I don't know which of these two women I'd want to hit on first. Aw, hell. I'd go for both of them.
OMG! I get mentioned in the same post with the incredible Dr. Twisty? I am totally flattered.
Let's make it a three-way. But D. is not allowed to watch!
(What an awesome photo that is, eh?)
